CASE STUDIES

See how we’ve made a significant difference to enhancing the sustainability of our clients’ property portfolios.

We have a proven track record of successful implementation initiatives.

For example solar installations and lighting retrofits, which are saving our clients money and lowering their carbon footprints dramatically. We have also been involved in numerous Green Star SA ratings and conducted many energy simulations and benchmarking. Here are a few projects where we have made a significant difference to enhance sustainability of a property portfolio.

Old Cape Quarter   4-Star Green Star

The Old Cape Quarter Apartments has recently achieved a 4-Star Green Star SA Design Rating. Tower Property Fund brought us onboard as the Accredited Professionals for this exciting New Build Project, helping to drive sustainability in our built environment. As the construction process goes forward, we are actively involved with the professional team by bringing green building solutions to the table, reviewing design revisions and ensuring these conform to the Green Star certification requirements. Once construction is complete, we will commence the As-Built GreenStar SA Submission.

Mall of Africa 4-Star Green Star

We collaborated with Solid Green Consulting to achieve a 4-Star Green Star Existing Building Performance Rating for the Mall of Africa. At the time of installation, it had the largest rooftop solar-PV installation in the Southern Hemisphere, producing  7800 MWh annually. Energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning systems, skylight technologies to increase natural light, and rainwater harvesting and groundwater seepage systems are a few of the sustainable initiatives making it an exciting showcase in the sustainable retail scheme.

Serra Services          5-Star Green Star

Serra Services achieved a 5-Star Green Star SA Rating in collaboration with Solid Green Consulting. This light manufacturing facility produces a significant portion of its own power from its Solar PV system, is equipped with a rainwater harvesting system, excellent energy and water efficiency initiatives including LED lighting and water-saving bathroom fixtures, and cutting-edge monitoring systems to accurately report on consumption. It is an excellent example of how our industrial buildings should adapt and become more environmentally sustainable.

Cape Quarter Square Sustainable Transformation

We implemented a R20-million green building refurbishment of Tower Property Fund’s Cape Quarter Square retail lifestyle village in Cape Town. The project included a 210kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installation, as well as installation of heat pumps for energy efficient water heating, and basement fan carbon dioxide control.

V&A Waterfront Victoria Wharf 5-Star Green Star

In collaboration with Sow and Reap Consulting, we helped the Vic Wharf achieve a 5-Star Green Star SA Existing Building Performance Rating – the highest rating for any existing shopping centre in South Africa. Excellent recycling initiatives, lots of natural light, efficient water and energy management, green cleaning practices and even a wildlife management programme make this a truly exceptional centre.

Junxion Mall Solar Photovoltaic Installation

Viewed from above it’s clear to see what a powerhouse the new Junxion mall in Philippi is. As the consultants on the project, we ensured the 1.2MW solar PV installation for the Devmark Property Group was designed to the highest standards. Our ongoing monitoring of the system will ensure it significantly lowers operating costs, mitigates against rising electricity costs and lowers the mall’s carbon footprint.
